It’s late.
I kiss you good night and tell you I love you.
Sleep well. I’ll see you tomorrow.
I close the door softly behind me.
I stop at the desk and say goodnight to the night crew.
One of them goes with me to the door and swipes me out.
It’s a long walk to the car through Twilight Zone corridors.
I pass the guard.
Goodnight.
But he doesn’t look up from his reading.
In the garage, I look around, to be safe.
There’s no one there. Just one other car.
I lock the doors and start the engine.
I’ll be home in half an hour.
I’ll call you when I arrive so you know I’m safe.
I drive through the dark
Wondering
How many more nights?
Thinking of you and your husband and praying for total recovery.
